Homemade Buttercream Vanilla Frosting. Directions In the bowl of a standing mixer cream softened butter and add 4 cups sugar milk and vanilla. Spread or pipe frosting onto cupcakes.
Once butter and sugar have come together add the vanilla. Beat with paddle attachment until smooth and gradually add the rest of sugar to reach frosting consistency. Beat in the heavy cream or milk 1 Tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
Spread frosting between layers and over top and sides of cake.
Whip on high speed for another 3-4 minutes until very light creamy and fluffy. Using an electric mixer fitted with beaters or a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment cream the butter and shortening on a medium speed until light and fluffy. Change up the flavor. Make sure the ingredients are at room temperature to ensure a smooth texture.
